Mine Vision Systems (MVS) is dedicated to providing advanced workflow-integrated perception and automation systems which improve speed, safety and productivity for the mining industry. We are a spinout from Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center, and are located in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. Following the successful product launch of our FaceCapture™ Mapping System, we are in a growth mode and we are seeking an Engineering Technician to join our team. As an MVS Engineering Technician you will be responsible for supporting prototyping, troubleshooting and repair of existing products, and product deliveries around the world. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with engineering team to troubleshoot and identify root cause of issues with complex electromechanical systems returned from customers from the field Organize and conduct repair work on electrical and mechanical components under the direction of the electrical and mechanical engineering teams Provide customer support by shipping systems and replacement parts as requested by our Tech Services Team Support our inventory management system by tracking flow of components Develop and maintain work instructions, SOPs, and testing performance evaluations Document issues in manufacturing processes as they arise, such as failures, tooling malfunctions, or assembly problems Coordinate with contract manufacturers on system and component deliveries Follow work instructions and test procedures for finished goods and in development prototypes Support production of prototype cables, electronics, and other electromechanical systems Occasionally conduct remote customer support operations by running through troubleshooting decision trees Travel as much as 15% per year to work sites beyond the corporate office, e.g. to support vendors, customers, and conduct field trials in underground environments SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Associates or Bachelors degree in engineering technologies or related field 4+ years of professional experience in an engineering, product development, or manufacturing role Experience with reading an electrical schematic and using a voltmeter, oscilloscope, and other common electrical test equipment Solid troubleshooting and debugging skills of mechanical and electrical systems Able to implement processes and procedures for product returns Experience using a Linux command line terminal window to execute scripts and run software tools Must live within the greater Pittsburgh area and have regular access to a vehicle See inefficiency or lack of process as an opportunity for implementing improvement Able to clearly and effectively communicate thoughts and ideas to a wide range of engineers and non-engineers  Comfortable disassembling and assembling complex electromechanical systems Ability to troubleshoot RMAs at least to board/subsystem level Ability to work from a written document or procedure to test a system Comfortable with a soldering iron, SMT assembly, and similar electronics rework tools Experience with ESD and similar compliance testing Proficient with basic hand tools and electromechanical assemblies NICE TO HAVES: Experience using CAD and E-CAD packages to review designs and make changes (preferably Solidworks and Altium) Passion for implementing organization systems that improve work efficiency Experience working with contract manufacturers on the high volume production of hardgoods such as electronics, machined components, soft goods, and/or molded parts Demonstrated proficiency with turning a digital design into a physical part (3D print, laser cut, router, etc)—either personally or with third party organizations Proficient with advanced electronic diagnostic tools like an oscilloscope or logic analyzer Familiarity with IP ratings and methods to assemble and test systems to meet IP rating requirements Portfolio of past work and projects (sharing both professional and personal projects are highly encouraged) BENEFITS WE OFFER: Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k) with match Unlimited PTO policy and flexible hybrid work model Small team that allows for immediate impact and showcasing of your talents Opportunity for hands-on work with cutting edge technology
