Medical Physicist – Plantation, FL

PURPOSE: 

The Medical Physicist is supported by an experienced full-time Physics Assistant and supervises the dosimetrists and radiation therapists in treatment planning and devises methods to apply laws and theories of physics to radiation medicine under the direction of the director of physics by performing the following duties.

GenesisCare is seeking a clinical Medical Physicists to join our team.  We have several centers in the area offering external beam radiotherapy, radiosurgery, and HDR brachytherapy.  This position will be based out of our Plantation Florida office and will also provide remote support to team members in other locations as needed. 

The Plantation site offers SRS, SRT, and SBRT with the Varian Edge platform and is actively involved in NRG trials with radiopharmaceuticals.  Experience with stereotactic treatments is required and radiopharmaceutical experience is preferred.  The successful candidate will work with a close-knit team of experienced physicists throughout Florida and North Carolina.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Calibrate and maintain therapy units, radiation sources, ultrasound systems and other relevant major equipment to sustain efficient and accurate operation.
  • Maintain treatment planning systems, as needed, including regular quality assurance.
  • Oversee and assist with the treatment planning of external beam as well as use of internally implanted radioactive sources.
  • Assists with development of specialized treatment aids and supervises technologists in the development and fabrication of such aids.
  • Assists with planning and delivery of HDR treatments
  • Maintain proper records and correspondence pertaining to quality control and quality assurance, calibration, radiation safety and compliance with State and Federal regulations and standards of accrediting bodies.
  • Perform quality assurance checks of patient charts prior to treatment, weekly, and at end of treatment for adequate and accurate documentation and dosage.
  • Assists engineering with maintenance schedules, component replacement, and necessary modifications and calibration for continued safe operation.
  • Assists with planning and participates in supporting programs (i.e. chart rounds and M&M review) to ensure effective and safe use of radiation and radionuclides in human beings by physician specialists.
  • Support protocol implementation and maintenance (including NRG Clinical Trials).
  • Support in house protocols for innovative skin treatment (SkinViva).
  • Support implementation of automated contouring and VARIAN RapidPlan planning.
  • Cooperates in compliance with OSHA regulations relating to hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Keeps abreast of new scientific methods and technological developments in radiation therapy

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Certification by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics in Therapeutic Medical Physics.
  • License to practice Therapeutic Radiological Physics in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain a license before starting work. 
  • Interacts effectively and efficiently both verbally and in writing with department staff regarding medical physics and radiation safety issues, and consults the chief physicist when uncertain how to handle a given problem 
  • Committed desire to collaborate and communicate with other members of the team to deliver clinical excellence.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • PhD, DMP, or Master’s Degree in Medical Physics or related field.
  • Certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) or Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM)
  • Strong stereotactic experience is necessary.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

  • Must be able to fluently speak, write and understand English.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
