Overview

Geosyntec is seeking a highly experienced Principal or Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join and continue to grow our North America Mining & Tailings Practice from Calgary, AB, reporting to our Waterloo, ON operations. A remote work schedule may be available at the Company’s discretion. The ideal candidate for this position will have an entrepreneurial attitude, be enthusiastic, and lead business development and technical efforts focused on providing strategic solutions to our client’s most complex problems. This position will support the development and implementation of new strategies to expand Geosyntec’s team, reputation and market share within the Geotechnical Practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Some of the key duties and responsibilities for the position include:

  • Developing business and managing clients and projects in the mining sector;
  • Provide Engineer-of-Record (EoR) services to clients, with a strong emphasis on tailings & mine waste management.
  • Recruiting, training, and mentoring early and mid-career engineers;
  • Managing projects and preparing (and leading) proposals;
  • Overseeing civil and/or geotechnical engineering analyses;
  • Overseeing subsurface site characterization;
  • Developing and managing instrumentation monitoring systems;
  • Preparing engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications; and
  • On occasions, conducting fieldwork associated with design and construction services.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm.   • Fieldwork and overnight travel may be required, as needed.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in Civil or Geotechnical engineering. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Alberta or British Columbia or the ability to become registered in AB/BC within one year of commencing employment. (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of progressive experience in consulting industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Significant experience providing Engineer-of-Record services (required)
  • Demonstrated business development and project management experience. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
