Job Description:

Schnabel is seeking a temporary full-time intern with a Geology, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering background to support our growing business. The emphasis for this position is broadening the intern’s practical knowledge and experience by applying professional principles to real problems under the supervision of engineering geology personnel. The position will be held from May through August of 2025.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing investigation work plans and reporting the results of geotechnical investigations, including in-situ testing, installation of monitoring wells, and geotechnical instrumentation.
• Observe and document geotechnical-related construction activities.
• Create basic plans and figures using GIS, Google Earth, or AutoCAD.
• Support 3D modeling and design efforts for heavy civil and dam safety projects.
• Review construction plans and technical specifications.
• Assist with the development of standard calculation templates using primarily Mathcad and Excel.
• Assist with administrative work.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Geology, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering program.
• Completion of geotechnical or geology-focused undergraduate coursework.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and literacy in the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work.
• Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.

Desired Skills/Experience:

• Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to travel to project sites and other office locations with a valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment screening.

The compensation range for a Geology Intern is between $17.00 to $24.20. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
