DGS is a very diverse agency that includes services ranging from facilities management, laboratory service, real estate, procurement, engineering, and more! We have a great team of supportive and talented IT professionals in our Office of Information Systems & Services (ISS), and we would like to hire another inquisitive, creative thinking individual for our team.

As part of the ISS team, the IT Project Manager is responsible for managing projects within DGS’ diverse environment. DGS has divisions concerned with statewide procurement, commonwealth of Virginia real estate, facilities management, lab testing, and many other areas. This position will often be assigned to large and challenging projects and will work in coordination with the area Application Portfolio Manager (APM) to assure effective coordination and successful conclusion. The successful candidate would work with ISS Application Director and other ISS Management team members in Strategic Planning activities.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Project management including project and resource planning, activity sequencing, risk assessments, communication planning, and status reporting.
  • Leading projects of moderate complexity.
  • Organizing self and others to accomplish goals within prescribed timeframes.
  • Directly applying project management tools to keep projects on time and under budget.
  • Manage using both agile and classical tools.

This position is in Richmond, Virginia, and employees must report on-site. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule (telework 2 days/week) upon completion of an approved telework agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with scope management, scheduling development, communications management, risk management, requirements management, and cost management.
  • Experience in managing projects with blended teams of technical and non-technical participants as well as employees and contractors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Experience in bringing projects in trouble to a successful conclusion.
  • Experience with both Kanban boards and Microsoft Project.
  • Good working knowledge of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and/or VITA project management guidelines and procedures.
  • Commonwealth Project Manager qualification or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of start date.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with Peoplesoft projects, back office projects, financials projects, real estate projects or scientific testing projects.
  • Experience in managing projects within a Commonwealth of Virginia executive agency.
  • Experience conducting a major project meeting VITA reporting requirements.
  • Project Management Certification by Project Management Institute.
