Medical Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor
FLSA Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt, Hourly

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our laboratory team as a Medical Laboratory Technician. A Medical Laboratory Technician performs diagnostic procedures on blood and body fluids, collects specimens from patients, performs various laboratory tests and draws conclusions from the results; operates and maintains laboratory equipment and performs various clerical duties as needed in accordance with current federal, state, and local requirements, and as directed by the laboratory supervisor, to assure that a successful, standard of quality laboratory is maintained at all times.

Essential Functions

  • Performs laboratory testing in an accurate and timely manner by following established protocols in order to assist in appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Β Performs procedures in all sections of the laboratory: chemistry, hematology, urine, coagulation, blood bank, microbiology and blood gases; assures that all assigned laboratory section duties are performed accurately utilizing accepted laboratory methods.
  • Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken. Expected to utilize complex problem solving skills in resolving clinical and instrument problems.
  • Complies with OSHA and regulatory requirements by following established procedures in order to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet accreditation standards.
  • Adheres to the standards and policies of the corporate compliance program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulation, and report to a designated manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
  • May provide technical education and guidance to students and staff by overseeing work performance in support of educational programs resulting in a continuous learning environment.
  • Works effectively as a team member within the department and with other units to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
  • Maintains flexibility required to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and scheduling.

Education and Experience

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must hold an Associate’s Degree.
  • Graduate of an Accredited College or Medical Technology School, or have had the required training and ability to pass the national examination given to qualify (A.S.C.P., C.L.S. or equivalent).
  • Be registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

  • Be able to follow written and oral instructions.
