Position Summary: Aldevra is currently recruiting a Board Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist to support the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Long Beach, CA. The Board-Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist is responsible for designing, optimizing, and evaluating radiation treatment plans, ensuring precise and accurate radiation dose delivery, and maintaining radiation safety for patients and staff. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
· Provide expert consultation to Radiation Oncologists and technical staff for radiation treatment planning and patient care.
· Supervise and assist with complex simulations and treatment setups.
· Be present during SBRT, SRS, and IGRT patient setups and remain onsite for all stereotactic procedures.
· Develop, implement, and oversee methods for calculating Monitor Units (MUs) or treatment times, ensuring independent verification.
· Conduct weekly chart reviews to ensure treatment accuracy and compliance.
· Perform final chart reviews post-treatment to confirm prescribed dose delivery and critical structure safety.
· Oversee radiation beam modeling, ensuring accuracy in the treatment planning system.
· Regularly test and validate treatment planning software updates and bug fixes.
· Ensure that treatment planning system outputs align with AAPM standards and manufacturer specifications.
· Train staff on treatment planning software and ensure compliance with all protocols.
· Provide recommendations for acquisition, maintenance, and lifecycle management of radiation therapy equipment.
· Periodically evaluate radiation therapy equipment for performance, reliability, and compliance.
· Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of measurement instruments, including ionization chambers, electrometers, and quality assurance tools.
· Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of new linear accelerators and radiation therapy equipment.
· Develop and maintain a Quality Management Program (QMP) for dosimetry and radiation therapy applications.
· Conduct annual calibration analyses and coordinate third-party validation of radiation beam accuracy.
· Report quality assurance activities and compliance metrics to facility administration.
· Radiation Protection & Incident Reporting:
· Monitor and enforce radiation protection standards for both patients and staff.
· Maintain documentation of calibration, testing, and safety protocols for radiation treatment units and simulators.
· Submit required incident reports, quality assurance documentation, and regulatory compliance reports.
· Administer and maintain network systems supporting radiotherapy planning, delivery, and treatment management.
· Ensure seamless communication between imaging, planning, and treatment systems.
· Troubleshoot computer software/hardware issues and collaborate with IT and informatics teams for system optimization.
· Provide education and training for radiation oncology staff, including physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists.
· Contribute to a learning environment for radiation oncology residents and staff.
· Develop and implement protocols for new procedures and technologies, ensuring proper training and quality control.
· Maintain comprehensive records of:
· Calibration and performance testing of radiation therapy equipment.
· Quality assurance evaluations and compliance reports.
· System updates and testing results for treatment planning software.
· Technical and safety program activities for radiation therapy operations.
· Participate in peer review conferences to discuss treatment decisions and patient outcomes.
· Maintain familiarity with current treatment guidelines and industry best practices.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.

Workplace Safety and Environment:
This position primarily operates in a clinical and office environment, involving computer work, data analysis, equipment evaluations, and collaboration with medical and technical staff. Occasional presence in radiation treatment areas may be required for quality assurance checks, equipment calibration, and procedural oversight, necessitating adherence to radiation safety protocols and workplace safety regulations.
This position requires passing an extensive background check.
Qualifications:
· Must be board certified in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and maintain licensure with the Board of Licensure for Professional Medical Physicists, if applicable.
· Must fulfill ongoing continuing education and certification requirements throughout employment.
· Master’s degree (M.S.) or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or a related field.
· At least two years of continuous experience within the last three years to ensure up-to-date expertise.
· Minimum 2 years of experience performing QA in a clinical setting.
· At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility accredited by ACR or APEx.
· Minimum 1 year of experience with TrueBeam with Brain Lab Accessories, following TG-142 standards.
· At least 1 year of experience, including Cone Beam CT (CBCT), following TG-142 standards.
· Minimum 1 year of experience with: Eclipse Treatment Planning System; ARIA Record & Verify System
· Experience must include treatment techniques such as 2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT (following TG-53 standards).
· At least 1 year of experience with MapCheck or an equivalent IMRT QA system.
· Minimum 1 year of experience with a Toshiba CT Simulator or equivalent, following TG-66 standards.
· At least 1 year of experience operating Superficial X-ray Machines.
· In-depth knowledge of radiation oncology care, including professional standards, principles, and procedures.
· Understanding of growth and development as well as pathophysiology of disease processes related to radiation oncology patients.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent telephone etiquette and precise documentation.
· Proficiency in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (intermediate to advanced level), online calendars, and cloud-based systems.
· Detail-oriented with accurate data entry skills.
· Customer-focused with a team-oriented work ethic.
· Ability to multi-task efficiently and accurately while maintaining quality standards.
· Must provide proof of required immunizations.
· Valid driver’s license required.
